Highland Cow Bench Trail – Crieff’s Artistic Tribute to Its Cattle Trading Heritage
In 2019, the town of Crieff, Scotland—once a historic hub for Highland cattle trading—commissioned Horn Imports to design and produce 11 life-size Highland Cow Bench models. The goal: to celebrate Crieff’s agricultural roots with a public art installation that combined local culture, creativity, and community pride.
Local artists were invited to submit design proposals for painting the fibreglass cow benches. The shortlisted entries were showcased at a public competition in Crieff Town Hall, where residents voted for their favourites. With support from generous sponsors, each winning design was brought to life and installed throughout the Crieff area.
The result was a vibrant Highland Cow Bench Trail—turning the town into an open-air gallery and drawing visitors to explore Crieff’s streets, parks, and landmarks. This unique project blended public art, tourism, and heritage storytelling, all centred around the iconic Highland cow.

Crieff Cowches Trail – A Highland Cow Bench Success Story
The Crieff Cowches Trail drew a huge response, bringing an estimated 15,000 visitors to the area. Locals and tourists picked up over 2,500 trail maps as they hunted for life-size Highland Cow benches spread across Crieff—from Glenturret Distillery to Innerpeffray Library.
Each bench invited people to sit, relax, and snap photos—turning the trail into a social media-friendly celebration of art, heritage, and community.
To close the summer, Crieff Hydro hosted a charity dinner where the painted benches were auctioned off. The event streamed live and raised substantial funds for local causes. These fibreglass “coos” proved to be more than public art—they sparked tourism, engagement, and generosity.

Our life-size standing cow model comes in two poses: head-up or grazing with head down. Based on years of experience with plastic cattle, we now include metal spars between the front and back legs as standard. These internal supports add strength and allow the model to be securely pegged or bolted to any surface.
We also offer a lying-down cow and a cow bench version. Both include metal lugs underneath for easy ground fixing—ideal for outdoor displays or public spaces.
Looking to create a full herd? Our calf model works beautifully on its own or alongside adult cows to form a realistic family group. We frequently customise this model to meet specific client needs.
